Sacred Heart has been linked with the Bauleni School in Zambia for the last four years and our children have managed to sponsor over 40 children to have an education. It costs approximately £20 to sponsor a child for one years education.
Fr. Anthony Cornforth is our link with the Zambian School, he visits annually and deposits the children’s hard earned funds, clothes, football strips and old uniform. The children watch slideshows and listen to updates throughout the year when he visits Sacred Heart.
Our children, with support from the School and Eco Councils have had cake sales, penny challenges and sponsored events to raise funds. Last year’s penny challenge raised an amazing £450 for the children in Zambia and the children of Sacred Heart are already saving their pennies for the 2015 Penny Challenge!
2017 Penny Challenge Fundraising Update: It was a sea of copper pennies on the yard in April; the children did a brilliant job collecting coins. It is always a lovely spectacle of how kind our school community when we hold our annual competition to raise funds for Zambia. It was lovely to see some parents attend and support the children. All money will go to helping some of the poorest most needy children in the world have an education in Zambia. We have sponsored sixty children so far and I am just pleased that I am not counting those pennies because there is a lot! A huge thank you to all who supported this event and to those that volunteered to help count the thousands of pennies! I can officially announce that we raised an AMAZING £405.93 from the pennies for the Bauleni School in Zambia, Fr Cornforth came into school to personally thank all of the children and our Mini-Vinnies handed him the cheque.
