What is the Mission Team?

During Advent, our Area Mission takes place across the new Partnership of Pontop. It will involve Sacred Heart School along with ten parishes, St. Bede’s Secondary School, Lanchester and other Catholic primary schools in the local area:

  • All Saints, Lanchester
  • Our Blessed Lady and St. Joseph, Brooms
  • Our Blessed Lady Immaculate, Blackhill
  • Our Lady of the Rosary, Shotley Bridge
  • Joseph’s, Stanley
  • Patrick’s, Dipton
  • Patrick’s, Consett
  • Pius X, Consett
  • Teresa, Annfield Plain

Mission Week in the involved primary schools will commence on the Monday 27 November – Friday 1 December.

Before the Mission, a group of children have been chosen to learn a dance associated with the theme of the Mission ‘Unbroken’ along with other children from other primary schools who will then teach the dance to the rest of the school. A group of Year 5 children have been selected to be part of the Mission Team prior to the Area Mission who will be working with staff in school and Ruth Corless who is helping the children to prepare for the Mission.

Ruth and staff will be working with these children weekly to help them understand what it means to be a good leader, help them to prepare liturgies independently, leading them in stillness and prayer, how to help others in our parish and overall preparing them for the Pontop Partnership Mission with other schools and parishes in our area. These children will set a great example to other children and helping our school to become closer with our own and other parishes and schools.
