Vincent was born poor and in the beginning he wanted to be rich. This was why he first became a priest!
Later he changed his mind and decided to spend his life helping the sick and mentally-ill, orphans and old people, beggars and the starving, prisoners and galley slaves.
Vincent’s life is a great reminder for us all to find ways to help those around us.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul has been engaging with young people and education since its earliest days. Today the SVP England & Wales is pleased to highlight its continuing strong links with young people, through the development of its new ‘Mini Vinnies’ programme – a ground-breaking Primary Schools initiative, based on good work done in Australia, piloted in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, and which is seen as having, “the potential to significantly contribute to the future of our Society.”
Ukrainian Appeal: The Mini-Vinnies have been in action again with their latest idea to collect clothes and toiletries for the Ukrainian families coming to the UK. They made posters to advertise the collection and spread the word to our school community by writing something for our school newsletter. They helped store the bags that came in and donated lots of clothes and blankets themselves! It will make a big difference to all families feeling the effects of the devastating war in Ukraine Well done!
Food Collection: Thank you to all the school community who donated food for our collection in the Autumn term. The Mini Vinnies collected all the food and made a note of the items donated from each class. The People’s Kitchen came to school and collected all of our donations. They were so grateful and thanked everyone in our school community. This will make a real difference to lots of local families.
Lenten Fundraising: A huge thank you to all who supported the Purple Ribbon fundraiser in the Lenten term in the last academic year. We raised almost £300 and donated it to the St. Vincent De Paul Society in Newcastle.
