Our structure started with a bottle stuck to a piece of cardboard. We had to choose suitable materials from a pile in our classroom to create the sides of the volcano around it. The material had to be strong enough to hold up our structure but still movable so it would fit into the small spaces. We worked as a team, sticking down cardboard to create our volcano structure.
Once our structure was secure, we needed to cover the sides to make them smooth like a volcanoes would be. We made paper mache paste using only two ingredients – flour and paper. After that, we tore strips of newspaper and dipped them into the paste before putting them onto of our volcano to create a layered skin. It was a very messy job!
We can’t wait to paint our volcanoes and watch them explode!
