I am the catering Manager at St Thomas More and I have also taken over the school dinner service at our two Primary Schools within the MAT, St Matthews in Prudhoe and Sacred Heart in Byermoor. I have over 20 years’ experience of working in the hospitality and catering industry and have been privileged to operate the catering facility at iconic venues such as Durham Cathedral and the Sage Gateshead. In my current role at STM I take pride in the quality food we provide the pupils, school dinners are such an important part of the day for all children.
The current catering team are extremely happy with the change and thoroughly enjoy cooking our new menus. Bistro@STM is the catering brand we have formed at St Thomas More School and we are very excited at rolling this brand out to your school, we pride ourselves on FRESH, QUALITY & LOCAL.
What this means to your child is:
- We only use quality prime cuts of British Meat
- All our eggs are free-range and local
- Suppliers are local to the North East
- All fruit and veg are Grade A, fresh and local when possible
- Meals are prepared onsite from our trained catering team use fresh, quality & local ingredients.
We were so confident that the children would enjoy our school dinners that we provided free school dinners to the whole school on the first two days back after the Easter Holidays. We had a fantastic take-up of 97% so we hope pack lunches will be a thing of the past!!

Packed Lunch Policy
As an accredited Healthy School, packed lunch boxes must be nutritionally balanced and should not include fizzy drinks, chocolate or high-fat crisps. By the same token, please try to increase the amount of fruit, yoghurt, brown bread, vegetables and unflavoured water, wherever you can. Nuts or foods containing nuts are not allowed. This is because of the number of children who have quite severe reactions, often life-threatening. Obviously these children avoid consuming nuts themselves but they can react in the same way if simply in a room where nuts can be found in another child’s lunch box. I am sure you will understand that we have to be very careful and I appreciate your support.
