What a week we’ve had in Reception this week! I can’t actually believe what we’ve fit into 4 days!
The children have already started to use the area and have had great fun exploring their new environment. The scooters, water area and sand pit were all a massive hit and it’s safe to say it makes our classroom feel a lot bigger! A special thank you to the Reception parents for all of their very kind and generous sponsors to the children in Reception during their sponsored silence to raise money for resources to put in our area. It really has made a huge difference.
We also enjoyed a brilliant visit to Hardwick Park on Wednesday. The children were perfectly behaved for their first out of school visit and had so much fun. Although it was Amazing Art Day in school, we didn’t miss out. Before our visit, we looked at the work of Goldsworthy who created art using leaves and the children made some art using leaves to re-create his work on their visit. They also went on a leaf hunt, learning about the different types of trees and leaves that grow on them. They then had their packed lunches which they were very excited about and finished off the day with a gruffalo hunt… we found him! Once we found him, we had to concentrate very hard to follow instructions to make a gruffalo crumble out of all the yummy things we find in the forest.
We have also celebrated Halloween in class by carving out and decorating pumpkins, rescuing spiders from their creepy webs and having a feel of the spooky goo covered skeletons in our water tray. Some of the children also attended the annual Halloween disco (pictures on the main newsletter).
In phonics, we have learned sounds c, k and ck, thinking about which words start with which grapheme and noticing that ‘ck’ only appears at the ends of words.
The children have also attended their first celebration assembly with the rest of school today. They were very excited to see everyone getting their ‘star of the week’ awards.
Next Wednesday (6th Nov) we are inviting parents in from 8.30-8.50am and 3.10-3.30pm to take part in Wow Wednesday – a special time set aside termly when you are able to view your child’s learning journal and leave them a comment. Simply attend the session that is best for you. We hope this will enable some parents to come and see their child’s work if they are unable to make a parent’s evening appointment.
Just a reminder that reading books cannot be changed unless a comment has been made on their reading record.
Have a lovely weekend everyone 🙂
