We are pleased to be able to share what the children have been up to once again after our website has undergone a transformation.
We have had a busy week this week with Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. The children absolutely loved making pancakes on Tuesday. We wrote instructions on how to make them first. Some of the children enjoyed making their own using flour and water in the mud kitchen afterwards (sorry for the messy clothes!).
The children were very well behaved in the Ash Wednesday Mass. We wrote our own Lenten promises before hand and talked about what Lent means.
The children also made scare crows in forest school!
In phonics, we have learned 4 tricky words this week; they all follow the same pattern (me, we, be, she). We also learned the ‘igh’ sound.
In Numeracy we have been thinking about time. This tied in nicely with making pancakes as we have been sequencing the order of making them. We have used sand timers to test out how many star jumps, hops etc we can do before the time runs out. We even managed to sit silently during a 1 minute timer to feel how long a minute actually is! We have also looked at number 19; the different ways to represent it and different pairs of numbers that add together to make 19.
We have had a few changes to our reading system recently. Please note that children’s books will now be changed twice a week; Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child’s reading book and record is in their bag every day to enable this to be smooth. Books will only be changed if a comment has been left in the reading diary and the current book is returned to school. You will also notice we are sending home brand new books which we have just bought into school. Each child in Reception will come home with a sticker tonight which gives a login to access all of the books we have bought online. Simply search for rising star on google, login using the information provided and you will be able to access any phase appropriate book for your child. You can check the back of the actual book sent home for which level is most appropriate.
Have a lovely weekend everyone 🙂
